Project Brief

Over my career, I have completed numerous projects for the companies I have worked for.  Below is a project portfolio brief for a variety of projects I have completed over the years that showcases a range of technologies and achievements.

TISAX (2025)

In my current company, we are working to implement TISAX.  This is an Information Security compliance that aligns with ISO 27001:2022 for the automotive industry.  I am currently assisting in writing policies and processes towards compliance and have been trained as a certified auditor in August 2025.  The goal is to complete certification by early 2026.

Server Room Move (2024)

The network was growing and needed more capacity to manage the virtual server needs.  I successfully moved the network from the old small network closet into the IT Office as a separated server space.  This involved setting up the new racks, installing the physical servers, moving the virtual servers, moving the internet services, working with our Global IT to setup the physical servers and new switches.  These tasks had to be accomplished without interruption to production.

Manufacturing Software Server Migrations (2024)

The company's manufacturing software was running on old Windows 2012 R2 servers and SQL 2012.  Working with the vendor, we successfully migrated the system off those old virtual servers into new Windows 2022 Server / SQL 2022 servers.  This included managing all of the systems that connected into the manufacturing software; including EDI, robots, other databases, and label printers.

Network Mapping (2023)

The network, over time, has grown and expanded with more components being added in the server room racks and walls.  I spent time to trace and identify all of the network items in the server room, create Visio documents to map the fiber pathways, update the Visio file for the equipment in the server rack, identify what is still needed/used, update documentation for each device including IP address and use, and updated documentation for all the servers.

Tiered Internet Access (2023)

Many employees in a manufacturing environment, in today’s environment, have computers and access to the internet.  For people whose jobs do not require the internet, we had to find a way to keep them off so they can focus on their work.  I created a way through the firewall and Active Directory to create access tiers of no internet, restricted with a list of approved websites, and standard access.

File Server Clean-up (2022-2024)

The company’s file server had been left to grow out of control and had no control mechanism for access requests for restricted access folders.  With multiple plants and their respective file servers, I’ve been working through the process of designating a folder owner, an approval process, and a clean-up/archive process and schedule.  The goal is to know who is responsible for a folder on the file server and that old files are archived and deleted on a routine basis.

The Year of Software System Upgrades (2022)

The company had several software platforms that were in sore need of upgrading, both the server software and client software.  The documentation was also very outdated, full of gaps, or missing altogether.  I spent the year learning and working on upgrading systems like BarTender by Seagull Scientific, PLM by Steel Projects, PEP by PEP Technologies, Axis Camera Station by Axis Communiations, and others.  I setup test servers, as needed, and completed OS upgrades on servers to Windows Server 2022.

Microsoft 365 (2020)

With the implementation of Teams, a transition to Microsoft 365 has begun.  By the end of 2020, I had overseen the migration of email to the cloud and launched several of the cloud apps to the organization including To-Do, Planner, Stream.  A plan to migrate to SharePoint is currently in progress.  I am learning Azure Active Directory, InTune, and the additional compliance and security aspects of the Microsoft 365 environment.

Intern Manager (2020)

Managed a 4th year college intern for 3 credits.  The intern did shadowing and was assigned independent projects.  Provided guidance on best practices and use of various technologies.

Microsoft Teams Implementation (2020)

COVID-19 moved our workforce very quickly from occasional remote work to a 100% work from home company.  Working with a small team of business continuity staff, we worked quickly to test and vet Microsoft Teams before rolling out and training the entire organization.

File Server Migration to the Cloud (2018)

In replacing an aging file server, I worked with a team to select a cloud-based storage platform.  The team chose Box.  I worked through the testing process, writing training materials, administrative setup, building out the file structure and permissions, migrating all the files over, performing data validation, and training staff.

Backup and Disaster Recovery (2017)

The organization was beginning to outgrow another tape backup system.  It was time to look for an alternate way to backup our files and to put a greater focus on disaster recovery.  The decision was made to implement a disk-based backup platform and to replicate the backups offsite.  By successfully writing for a small technology grant, we were able to purchase a Synology NAS unit and hard drives.  The organization then purchased StorageCraft ShadowProtect.  These investments have allowed us to transition to a disk-based backup system.

Podio Project Management (2016)

In the search to find a solution to help the organization to manage grants and projects. I learned about Podio and how it could work as a grants and projects management solution for the organization.  The more I worked on it, the more I realized it’s potential and began to work on providing grants, project, as well as for process management for the organization.  Adding in the advanced workflows has provided a higher level of usefulness to the organization.

Hyper-V Implementation (2016)

The opportunity came about to upgrade one of the older servers to ensure that we had a well-functioning hardware for our email server.  The new server allowed the opportunity to implement the first Hyper-V server to act as host to the first virtual machine, the mail server.  Since that time, I have virtualized most of the network’s servers utilizing existing hardware with minimal upgrades due to tight budget constraints.

HIPAA Compliance (2013)

I have been working for the past several years to ensure the organization is HIPAA Compliant.  This has been both at the systems level as well as at the policy and procedural levels.  Through this process, I serve as the Security Officer in addition to performing the roles of IT Network Manager and IT Server Manager.  This work has included aspects such as:

  • NIST Risk Assessment

  • Server security, auditing, reporting, and access controls

  • Workstation encryption, security, and use policies

Resources to complete this have been scarce so it has taken a lot of self-learning, planning, budgeting, and getting creative to implement all the required elements of compliance.

Association Management System (AMS) Implementation & Migrations (2008)

I have assisted my organization with acquiring our first AMS platform and two subsequent migrations (one due to merger and the second due to dissatisfaction afore mentioned replacement platform).  This work included vetting out more than a dozen potential vendor solutions, organizing the staff team that would work towards a final selection, leading the staff migration team, organizing the system launch and roll-out to members, doing a large portion of the migration tasks, writing training and instructional materials, and training the staff.

The AMS software is used by most departments within the organization as well as the company's primary online presence, so its impact is substantial.  A migration of this scope requires knowing each user's needs, challenges, and desires to procure a solution that will meet the needs of as many staff members as possible.

Joomla Content Management System (2007-present)

Beyond corporate life, I find great enjoyment in doing website design for small non-profit organizations.  The clientele I work with have few resources for their online presence.  To better service these groups, I have learned Joomla 3 & 4, which is an open source CMS solution, to create and manage their websites.  I have also been learning Gantry5.

I have also learned basic HTML, Drupal, and Dreamweaver over the years.

Electronic Data Interchange (2001)

For the manufacturing plant, I worked on an EDI project which allowed the company to complete the requirements for a contract with General Motors.  This technology now being available to the company lead to similar EDI projects with Ozark/O’Reilly Auto Parts, Bosch, Standard Auto, and Advanced Auto.  The data being passed through included sales orders, shipping orders, and invoices.

Enterprise Resource Planning (2000)

For the manufacturing plant, I took over the ERP platform and was able to successfully expand the use of the platform to more staff within the organization, learn how each part of the platform worked to provide in-house troubleshooting, learned how to write SQL statements for reporting, table validation, & data correction, and to provide staff training.  During my tenure, the company also went through two major system upgrades, beta testing, and EDI integration.
